Tarkan tour venues
A Turkish singer who was born in Germany in 1972, Tarkan has released several highly successful albums over his long professional career as a recording artist. The singer has sold in the region of 30 million albums in various styles, which range from folk rock music to dance pop. Popular in Europe, North America and Asia, Tarkan is remarkable for his wide appeal, especially when the fact that he chooses not to sing in English is taken into account.
In 1997, the artist founded his own record label, HITT Music, which is based in Istanbul. It is on this label that all of the vocalist's recordings have subsequently come out. Tarkan's company is also a promotional organisation and it has staged several large-scale, open-air events for Turkish and international music stars. The singer has been operating as a professional full-time musician and entertainer since 1991. In 1999, Tarkan was named as the Best Selling Middle Eastern Artist at the World Music Awards held in Monaco.
Tarkan's career milestones
Tarkan had shown a great deal of interest in studying music at school before his talent was noticed, and he was ultimately accepted to attend the prestigious Üsküdar Musiki Cemiyeti Academy in Istanbul. At this time in his life, Tarkan scraped a living and took small-scale gigs, often performing as a wedding singer. According to the artist, he was planning on returning to Germany when a chance meeting with Mehmet Söğütoğlu, a senior record company executive, changed his life.
Yine Sensiz was Tarkan's professional debut. Released in 1992, the album sold 1.2 million copies, making the singer an overnight star. Tarkan penned a number of songs on the album himself, although covers also appeared, notably one by the Gipsy Kings. Tarkan, of 1999, was the artist's first internationally released album. It was originally destined for the French market but after the singer's single “Şimarik” had been a hit in several countries, it got a wider release. Tarkan got to number six in Hungary and number seven in Germany, as well as charting in Austria, France and Belgium. “Şimarik” was later reworked as “Kiss Kiss” by Stella Soleil, opening up Tarkan's work to a whole new tranche of fans.
In 2010, Tarkan unleashed Adimi Kalbine Yaz on the public. It sold in excess of 300,000 copies in the first week after it came out. The Kral TV Music Awards named it as the Best Album of that year. In 2016, Tarkan returned with a new album entitled Ahde Vefa.
