Meet the Los Angeles Angels

The Los Angeles Angels, or simply the "Angels", were established in 1961 as a member of the American League West Division. The team’s name changed many times throughout their history – from their inception, they were the "Los Angeles Angels", then the "California Angels", the "Anaheim Angels", then the "Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim" and finally the "Los Angeles Angels" again. The Angels have a history of scouting great players to their ranks. Famous Hall of Famers who have played for the team include heavy weights like Rod Carew and Nolan Ryan, who have had their jersey numbers retired, in addition to manager Jim Fregosi, coach Jimmie Reese, and team founder Gene Autry. Another important Angels player was Vladimir Guerrero. In 2004, during his first season with the Angels, he led the team in an impressive run to win the Division title, being voted MVP by his teammates. In 2005, the Angels repeated the great success of the previous year and won again. Guerrero was named one of the best current players in baseball at the time in 2009. Although he left the team in 2009, he returned in 2014 and signed a one-day contract with the team, announcing his retirement as an Angel.
