Lordi Biography - Straight From the Freak Show
Long feted in their native country, this monstrous five-piece have been around since the late '90s. The idea for the group was conceived by frontman Tomi Pettri Putaansuu in 1992, but it would take until a 1996 Kiss concert in Stockholm for all pieces to fall together and a band to be formed. Loaded with an artillery of songs, the band signed to Sony BMG Finland and released their debut album Get Heavy in 2002. Spawning chart-topping single 'Would You Love a Monsterman' the album became the band's mainstream breakthrough.
Building on their homeland success, third full-length The Arockalypse took them all the way to the Eurovision final and, following their shock win, the world was at their feet. After coming home to a victory parade, with 80,000 fans turning up to the band's free Helsinki gig and a personal salute from Finland's then president Tarja Halonen, the group returned to touring. Spending most of 2007 on the road with New York noisemongers Type O Negative, the band wowed the crowds at Ozzfest and Bamboozel. In 2008 fourth cut Deadache hit shelves, featuring a stronger emphasis on horror themes which was later followed up on fifth and sixth studio efforts Babez for Breakfast and To Beast or Not to Beast.
