Kicking off his career at the age of nine, American rapper Dwayne Michael Carter Junior, aka Lil Wayne, became the youngest signing to Cash Money Records after recording freestyle on the label owner's answering machine. A number of early releases later as part of rap group Hot Boys, along with featuring on Destiny's Child's 'Soldier', Lil Wayne produced Tha Carter in 2004.
Referred to in speeches by President Barack Obama encouraging American high school students to stay in education, Lil Wayne has worked hard to reach the level of success he enjoys today. Winning a Grammy for 'Best Rap Album' in 2009, the Lil Wayne new album of 2010 made a dramatic switch in genres to a more rock based sound, entitled Rebirth.
After a spell in prison, Lil Wayne returned to the scene more successful than ever with a new album featuring projects with Julez Santana. In production for a number of years, this more mature lyrical content cements Lil Wayne's position in the much lauded hip hop hall of fame.
