Set around 1415, this play picks up where Henry IV, Part II left off, with the mischievous "Prince Harry" of the former tetralogy instalments having transformed into a responsible, noble King. After overcoming an assassination attempt at Southampton, Henry embarks on a voyage to France where he has been promised the King's daughter Katherine.
