Having formed in September 2010, Brooklyn-based band Friends are one of the biggest acts to emerge from their local music scene. The five piece band, named after Brian Wilson's favourite Beach Boys album, have already appeared on NME's list of the 'Top 50 Artists of 2011' and been nominated for BBC's Sound of 2012 poll. Friends Biography - Eclectic Tastes Brought Together by a Bed Bug Infestation
Held back by stage fright, Friends lead singer Samantha Urbani had been writing songs her whole life, eventually recording some of the pieces she had been working on and showing them to her friends Matt Molnar and Nikki Shapiro. It was only after Lesley Hann and Oliver Duncan found refuge in Urbani's apartment during a bed bug infestation that they finally formed Friends the band.
Fitting with their unusual beginnings, the five piece band have a unique sound and interesting approach to music. Many members of Friends the band can play more than one instrument, meaning that they can switch roles and bring a new take to their sound. The combination of music tastes contributed by each band member and their ability to mix elements of dance, indie and pop music creates their eclectic sound.
