Foster the People: new music and tour

Formed in Los Angeles in 2009 as the brainchild of musical whiz-kid Mark Foster, Foster the People came together after years of struggle for its main founder member. Having paid the bills writing advertising jingles and having a brief flirtation with the notion of working with Dr Drew when he was an unknown, he finally decided to form a band to realise his own creative vision. The band's trademark song "Pumped up Kicks" became a viral hit and they were soon on the path to success, rapidly building an international fanbase when 2011 debut album Torches was released to rave reviews.

After touring for two years to support their debut record, Foster the People released second album Supermodel in 2014. Preceded by the lead single "Coming of Age", the record was another critical and chart success, reaching number three on the US Billboard 200 and 26 in the UK. In 2017, the band released their third studio album Sacred Hearts Club with the addition of Isom Innis and Sean Cimino, both former touring members, to the official lineup. From this album, their song "Sit Next to Me" has peaked at 56 on the Billboard Hot 100, but failed to chart in the UK. Foster cited tragic events in the news as inspiration for the album, and said that the band sought to create a record of joy amidst the chaos of current events.
