All hailing from different cities, Grian Chatten, Conor Deegan (bass), Carlos O'Connell (guitar), Conor Curley (guitar) and Tom Coll (drums) met in college and quickly found a connection. They all shared the same passion for art and poetry, listing Yeats, Joyce and Shane McGowen of The Pogues as among their favourites and massive influences in their music and lyrics. Fontaines DC firmly established their roots as a Dublin band, settling there and falling in love with the city, using its brilliance, imperfections and eccentricities as constant inspiration. Shaking up the London scene

Fontaines DC released their first single, Liberty Belle, through their own independent label in 2017. The record was recorded in the heart of Dublin, of course, with Daniel Doherty of Darklands Studios. After the release of follow up singles Hurricane Laughter and Winter in the Sun, the band signed with Brooklyn based label Partisan Records. Founded by Tim Putnam and Ian Wheeler in 2007, Partisan has the likes of Cigarettes After Sex, Idles and Deer Tick attached to its roster. Despite living in Dublin, Fontaines DC made their mark in the ever-expanding London scene, where they became involved with South London alt-rock sensations Shame, with whom they would later support on a UK tour.
