The Rolling Stones: rock legends announce first UK and Ireland tour in five years
Part of the British Invasion of the 1960s, the Rolling Stones rewrote music history with their blues-driven brand of rock 'n' roll, infusing influences from country, folk, pop and world music into their work. Propelled by timeless tracks such as "Gimme Shelter", "Paint It Black" and of course, "Satisfaction", the Stones have recorded 10 UK number one studio and live albums, were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1989, and have sold over 250 million records worldwide (making them one of the best-selling artists in music history).
Known for their epic live stadium tours, the Stones held a record four of the top five highest-grossing concert tours of all time after their worldwide 2005-2007 jaunt A Bigger Bang; which made a mammoth $558 million. A lack of suitable venues meant that the band were unable to visit the UK on their last European tour, but they will make amends in 2018 after announcing details of their much-anticipated No Filter tour.
Much to the delight of fans across UK and Ireland, the Rolling Stones – who last played in on native soil in 2013 – will call at Dublin; London; Manchester; Edinburgh; Cardiff and Twickenham in May and June this year, meaning fans up and down country (and across the Irish Sea) will be able to see a Rolling Stones concert live in 2018. The Rolling Stones: still topping the charts after six decades in the business
Emerging as a sexier and more dangerous alternative to the pop melodies of The Beatles, the Rolling Stones were formed by Mick Jagger and Keith Richards, along with an assortment of other musicians, back in 1962. Soon after their formation, drummer Charlie Watts and bassist Bill Wyman were added to the line-up, and before long the group attracted the attention of the press, as much for their rebellious behaviour offstage as their music.
Their first major chart breakthrough came with the single "It's All Over Now", which hit the number one slot in 1964; starting a prolific run of chart-toppers. By the 1970s and 80s, the quartet were a worldwide phenomenon, selling millions of copies of classic albums such as Exile On Main Street and Sticky Fingers and headlining stadiums and festivals all over the world. In the decades since then, they've enjoyed an unprecedented run of success; scoring yet another UK number one with Blue & Lonesome in 2016 to maintain their place at the top the music industry tree. Buy Rolling Stones tickets now at StubHub and see them live in 2018.
