Earl Sweatshirt Biography - From Troublemaker to Tastemaker

Born to a poet and political activist mother, it was natural for Sweatshirt (actual name Thebe Neruda Kgositsile) to turn to rapping for his profession. Growing up in Los Angeles it didn't take long for the young artist to fall into the local rap scene but it was when Tyler, the Creator discovered him on MySpace that things really took off for the rapper. Tyler invited him to join his rap group Odd Future and the collaboration soon thrust hip hop into the mainstream, featuring in mainstream music publications like Billboard and Spin. His self-titled debut EP received positive reviews upon being released as a free download in 2010 but Sweatshirt's knack for getting into trouble saw his mother send him away to a school for troubled boys, temporarily pausing his burgeoning music career.

By 2012 he had worked his way out of the school on good behaviour and was back to making music - both alone and with Odd Future. The young star's talent continued to be recognised through collaborations with Frank Ocean and The Alchemist, before the release of his second studio album Doris, which earned the star the title of "tenth best producer in hip hop" by Complex. He wasted no time following up with Don't Go Outside in early 2015, which the star himself considers to be his first true solo album.
