Dolly Parton Biography - A Living Music Legend
This country music legend's career in show business began earlier than most. Following her birth in 1946 in Tennessee she became a child performer, releasing a few singles in the 1950s and 1960s before getting her first big break, scoring a Top Ten hit with a duet, a cover of Tom Paxton's 'The Last Thing on my Mind' with Porter Wagona. It wasn't until the 1970s, when she started pursuing solo work as her main outlet, that she found stardom under her own name. Her 1977 song 'Here You Come Again' was a smash hit and truly announce her to the world.
A string of hits followed, including the seminal 1981 smash '9 to 5', and she eventually became the most awards-endowed female country music performer of all time and was induced into the Country Music Hall of Fame in 1999. Despite composing over 3,000 songs so far she's refused to slow down, releasing albums at least every couple of years, most recently the stunning 2014 effort Blue Smoke.
