Devil Makes Three Biography - Redemption & Ruin
Despite two members hailing from Vermont and one from New Hampshire, this bluegrass inspired group came together in Santa Cruz, California. With Pete Bernhard on guitar, Lucia Turino on bass and Cooper McBean on tenor banjo, they set out to bring together classic blues and country sounds with flickers of ragtime and bluegrass - making the genre truly their own. Their self-released eponymous debut came out in 2002 and was quickly followed by a second Longjohns, Boots and a Belt. As well as positive feedback from the alt-country crowd, the group appealed to an Americana crowd who praised the subtle hint of punk rock, and by their next studio LP they'd signed with Milan Records.
The raucous energy of their live performances drew in the crowds and they enjoyed a number tours tours across the US, bringing in special guests from Jerry Douglas to Darrell Scott and playing at festivals like Outside Lands Music and Hardly Strictly Bluegrass. This prompted live albums A Little Bit Faster and a Little Bit Worse and Stomp and Smash. Now after touring with the likes of Joe Fletcher & the Wrong Reasons and Trampled by Turtles, they are back on the road for a summer tour that will see them grace our shores for dates in London and Manchester.
