Christy Moore Biography - Coming Into His Own

Hailing from Country Kildare, Ireland, this soloist stumbled on his music career by chance. Originally a bank employee, he left for England during the bank strike in 1966 and never returned, taking up spots in folks clubs to fund his musical ambitions. During this time the performer began to rub shoulders with other traditional musicians including Luke Kelly and Seamus Ennis, who helped him shape his sound. After releasing Prosperous in 1972 he formed the band Planxty. The group trailblazed Irish folk music, widening its appeal outside of Ireland. After leaving the group three years later he enjoyed success with Moving Hearts before focusing on his solo work.

Since going it alone, the singer has developed a reputation for steering away from conventional sounds, producing a back catalogue of songs dealing with issues of politics and addiction. The launch of 1980s political album H-Block was raided by police whilst his personal struggles have led to a number of songs influenced by drink including 'Delirium Tremens'.

Having just released his highly anticipated 2013 record Where I Come From - which peaked at Number 3 in the Irish album charts - this highly impressively performer continues to draw fans to his intimate gigs.
