Cardiff City Stadium: a stunning new development

Opened in 2009, Cardiff City Stadium replaced the old Ninian Park as home of Cardiff City FC. Part of a large development in the Leckwith area of the city - which also included a retail park, housing development and Cardiff International Sports Stadium athletics venue - it was designed by multinational architectural firm Arup Associates. While the initial capacity of Cardiff City Stadium was just over 28,000 (already an improvement on the 21,500 capacity of Ninian Park), it has since been expanded with the addition of the Ninian Stand, providing space for a further 5,000 spectators. In fact, the highest ever attendance at Cardiff City Stadium was recorded for an international match between Wales and Belgium in June 2015, when the stadium was filled to the very last seat.
