British Fast5s All-Stars Championship history
Netball is derived from the popular American sport of basketball and has its origins in the United Kingdom in the 1890s. Netball is primarily played by women, and while there are men's netball teams, the only competitively recognized teams are women's. The sport is primarily played in the U.K. but has cropped up around the world, by and large in Commonwealth nations like Australia, New Zealand, India and Canada. The rules of netball are very similar to basketball with the major difference being that players who have the ball cannot move until it has been passed. Launched by England Netball and Barry Hearn's Matchroom Sport, the Fast5s is a brand new tournament designed to showcase this exciting format of netball.
The Netball Superleague is an elite netball competition in the United Kingdom. It features ten teams from England, Scotland and Wales, and runs from February to June. The teams that make up the Superleague are the Celtic Dragons from Wales, the Hertfordshire Mavericks, Loughborough Lightning, Manchester Thunder, Severn Stars from Worcestershire, Sirens from Glasgow, Surrey Storm, Team Bath, Team Northumbria and Wasps Netball from Coventry. Alongside plenty of homegrown talent, the league also includes players from across the globe including Australia, New Zealand, Uganda, South Africa, Grenada and Fiji.
