Birmingham City FC: The Blues that won’t leave you feeling blue
"The Blues", as Birmingham City FC are known to their fans, were formed in 1875 and were the first football club to appoint a board of directors and register as a limited company. The fledgling club was called Small Heath Alliance until 1905, and it wasn’t until 1943 that it was finally named Birmingham City. Their great rivals are Aston Villa FC. Their supporters’ theme song is "Keep Right On To The End Of The Road", which was first sung by fans during their 1956 FA Cup run. From Small Heath Alliance to Birmingham City
The 1920s were a good time for the club. Under their captain, Frank Womack, who played in an astonishing 515 games, a team that included Birmingham City legends Johnnie Crosby and Joe Bradford was riding high. Their first FA Cup Final was in 1931, when they lost to West Bromwich Albion 1–2. The immediate post-war period was a dramatic one for Birmingham City FC. They appointed three great managers in succession: Harry Storer and Bob Brocklebank, then Arthur Turner. They made it to the semi-finals of the first FA Cup competition after the end of the war and then, in 1956, reached the final against Manchester City. They lost, but the most remarkable incident of the game was when Manchester City goalkeeper, Bert Trautmann, broke a bone in his neck during the match but played on unaware of the seriousness of the injury. Nowadays, Birmingham City FC runs a community trust that furthers football in the community. They have also established a charitable organisation called the Blues Foundation. Football clubs like Birmingham City FC are very much a part of their communities and give back generously to the people who support them.
