The history of the Birmingham Bulls

The story of the Bulls begins in 1992, when Art Clarkson secured rights to an ice hockey team that played in the East Coast Hockey League (ECHL Hockey). He named it the Birmingham Bulls after a World Hockey Association team of the same name but the team was sold in 1997 and later relocated in 2001. Around 2017, the idea of resurrecting the Bulls franchise came to the fore as there was an increasing demand for ice hockey in the area. In 2017, the team was approved to play in the Southern Professional Hockey League (SPHL) and used the opportunity to connect the new team with the old one: legendary Bulls player Jamey Hicks was chosen to be the head coach for this new SPHL team.
