Absolute Bowie Tickets
Absolute Bowie, Absolute Gold
It can be difficult to get tickets for some of the greatest acts in the world, and David Bowie is certainly no exception. But that's where tribute bands come in. In the case of Mr. Stardust himself, Absolute Bowie tickets are as close as you can get to the real thing.
Schedule
The Absolute Bowie schedule includes The Witchwood in Lancashire, followed by Butlins in Skegness, O2 Academy Newcastle, Manchester Academy and Butlins Bognor Regis. Then they will head to Elgive Theatre in Chesham, then on to O2 Academy Liverpool, and The Grand in Clitheroe, Lancashire. Finally, AB will pass through The Half Moon on Lower Richmond Road, The Rescue Rooms in Nottingham, The Sheffield O2 Academy, back through the Bognor Regis Butlins, to the Hertford Corn Exchange before they kick off their Dutch tour. They will return to the UK for shows in Brighton at the Concorde 2, The Boom Boom Club in Surrey, and The Beaverwood Club in Kent. After that comes a two-show blowout, when Absolute Bowie throws their Bowie Birthday Bash. They will follow that up the only way anyone can, with a Bowie POST Birthday Bash. Then, AB will make their rounds through several of the Butlins locations, including Bognor Regis, Skegness, and Minehead.
Trivia
As previously mentioned, Absolute Bowie carries the seal of approval of one of David's original band members, Woody Woodmansey. The band came together through chance and their shared love of David Bowie and his work. They spent a long time and a lot of energy finding the proper band members to bring out the best David Bowie performance possible. They've even gone so far as to unanimously decide to avoid playing "The Laughing Gnome," which the man himself even refuses to perform live. If you've never heard this colourful number, it's worth a listen even if only to understand why Bowie pretends not to hear its requests at shows.
Band
Absolute Bowie, a five-piece band from the UK, is the only Bowie tribute band endorsed by Woody Woodmansey, the drummer for David Bowie's Spiders From Mars. Absolute Bowie consists of lead vocalist Halloween Jack, guitarist Mick Ransom, Herby Flowers on bass, keyboardist Rick Fakeman and drummer Weedy Woodmansey. Whereas their inspiration is obvious, it is worthy of notice that they perform David Bowie from the beginning of his career to the end, complete with all the flamboyant costumes you would expect from such an icon. Not only that, they have studied his every move, reproducing the David Bowie experience in exquisite detail.
Breakthrough
David Bowie's first hit was "Space Oddity" in 1969, which won him an Ivor Novello award. But where he really broke through was when he became Ziggy Stardust in the '70s. Many would describe The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars as the greatest concept album of all time, charting at No. 5 in the UK and No. 75 on the Billboard Pop Albums chart. The album was also certified platinum in the UK and gold in the U.S.
Hit Albums
The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars captures the man in all his taboo-breaking, sexuality-dabbling, on-the-edge-of-your-seat style. Hunky Dory was rated No. 108 on their 500 Greatest Albums of All Time by Rolling Stone. Bowie has sold over 140 million albums throughout his career and was ranked as the 39th greatest rock star of all time in 2004 by Rolling Stone. Absolute Bowie does all these proper tribute, exuding Bowie so well you almost feel like you're watching the man himself.
Show Experience
One aspect of tribute bands is their adherence to the styles and mannerisms of the artists they mimic. Expect members to dress the part, from wigs to makeup to costume. In the case of Absolute Bowie, this leads to spectacular performances that bring to mind the greatest of Bowie's shows. The crowd can't help but to sing along with stellar renditions of his greatest, including "Space Oddity," "China Girl," "Fame," and "Under Pressure." It's hard to imagine anyone being seated for such a show.
