NBA London 2018: Boston Celtics take on Philadelphia 76ers at O2 in January 2018

A host of big-names from the basketball world are set for a showdown in the capital this January, as the Boston Celtics take on the Philadelphia 76ers in the annual NBA London game at the O2 – with tickets available to buy at StubHub.

The electrifying match-up, which takes place on Thursday 11 January, sees the biggest basketball stars cross the Atlantic to show UK fans what they can do at The O2 Arena in London. And if last year's Indiana Pacers v Denver Nuggets showdown was anything to go by this year's fixture looks set to be another absolute cracker. 

The Boston Celtics, who are the NBA's most successful franchise with 17 Championships, come into this season having finished top of the Eastern Conference last year. The Celts boast several All-Stars in Isaiah Thomas, Gordon Hayward and Al Horford while young talents Jaylen Brown and Jayson Tatum both look to have bright futures ahead in the NBA.

The 76ers, meanwhile, have built a team around 7-foot Cameroonian Joel Embiid who lit up the NBA in his debut season last year. What's more, Ben Simmons and Markelle Fultz (the number one Draft picks from the last two seasons) will both feature, meaning both sides will be at full-strength for the clash.

NBA London: basketball's finest looking forward to huge UK clash

The game marks the league's eighth regular-season match in London, with All-Stars such as Carmelo Anthony, Paul George, DeMar DeRozan, Kevin Garnett and Paul Pierce to name but a few having entertained fans in the capital over the past few years.

January's game will be the Celtics' second in the capital, having played a pre-season tie in London against the Minnesota Timberwolves in 2007. The 76ers will be playing their second game in the UK and first game in London, having previously played a preseason game in Manchester against the Oklahoma City Thunder in 2013.

One of the players who will be on show, two-time All-Star Isiah Thomas, says he can’t wait to see what London has to offer in terms of support.

"It's very exciting for our team and the whole Celtics organisation to compete in front of our loyal fans in London," he said.

"I can’t wait to connect with them at the NBA London Game 2018 and hopefully make new fans in the process."

76ers star Joel Embiid meanwhile, said: "I look forward to coming back to London with the Sixers after visiting for the first time this summer."

"We are a young, hungry team and will be sure to give the fans an exciting game against Boston in January."
