Friends since their schooldays, this Norwegian duo - Erlend Oye and Eirik Glambek Boe - cite their first musical foray together as a tongue-in-cheek rap about their teacher. At school they played in amateur group Skog but broke up after releasing their first EP, leaving the two friends room to form their own act. After making well-received appearances at a handful of European summer festivals, the group caught the eye of Kindercore records in 1999 and released their debut album, Quiet is the New Loud, two years later. Sharing the same producer as Coldplay, the album proved to be a commercial and critical success, even giving its name to a movement of similar musicians. Their follow-up album, Riot on an Empty Street, featured guest vocals from Feist and helped win the group 2004's Best Music Video from MTV Europe for 'I'd Rather Dance With You'.
