Papa Roach Biography - Metal Metamorphosis

Named after Shaddix's grandfather Howard William Roatch, the band came together in 1993 when future frontman Jacoby Shaddix and drummer Dave Buckner met on Vacaville High School's football field and bonded over their shared tastes in music. After expanding the line-up the group appeared at their high school talent show performing Jimi Hendrix's 'Fire'. Although they lost out the band continued to perform at any gig they could get. 1994 saw the release of the debut EP Potatoes for Christmas, which was followed three years later with Old Friends From Young Years, seeing them build their profile with support slots from the likes of Incubus, Earth Wind & Fire, and Static-X.

Their breakthrough came in the form of debut major label release Infest. Driven by big MTV hit 'Last Resort', it went on to sell more than 7 million copies and earn a Grammy nomination. Since this initial burst of success the band have released eight albums, each pushing their sound forward, incorporating new musical styles, and shedding the rap skills that defined their earlier releases. Their reputation as engaging live entertainers has seen them wow the crowds at events such as Reading Festival and Download among others around the world.
