Interpol 2017 tour
Soaring to fame and acclaim in the 2000s, this New York City indie rock band trailblazed the post-punk revival with their daring, polyphonic sound. Taking their cues from the best of British post-punk acts from the 80s, including Joy Division and The Chameleons, the suit-clad group produced some of the finest guitar-driven albums of the decade, including Turn on the Bright Lights (2002), the legendary Antics (2004), and more recently their incredible album El Pintor (2014).
While most of their contemporaries have fallen off the radar, the excellence of their back catalogue has seen their heroic status cemented on both sides of the Atlantic. With the band confirming work on their upcoming follow-up to El Pintor, set to release in 2018, Interpol's upcoming concerts may even feature the odd new track from their anticipated album. Interpol biography
When Daniel Kessler and Carlos Dengler met in philosophy class in the late 90s, little did they know their fledgeling friendship would eventually spawn one of the most esteemed indie rock outfits of all time. Bringing brilliant British baritone vocalist Paul Banks on board as frontman, the group garnered instant appeal in the US and the UK with their post-punk-inspired sound. Eminent label Matador Records snapped them up and by 2002, they'd released their dazzling debut album Turn on the Bright Lights.
Spearheading the post-punk revival, their snare-heavy melodies and penchant for staccato bass and harmonised guitar in tracks like "Obstacle 2" became the sound du jour, influencing a wave of emerging indie acts including The Killers, The National and White Lies. The band secured their position as leaders of indie rock revolution with their sophomore release Antics in 2004. Spawning a succession of Top 40 hits in the US and the UK - including "Evil" and "Slow Hands" - the album attracted rave reviews and paved the way for supporting slots alongside bands like The Cure and U2.
After a four-year hiatus, Paul Banks and company returned in their suits and sunglasses, unveiling their fifth studio album El Pintor to the world. Suffice to say, with critics praising El Pintor for Interpol's boldness and elegance. Even more impressive, the album found itself on a number of best-of-the-year lists from the likes of Q,NME and Drowned in Sound, to name a few! With talks now in the works for their follow-up album, the band are already touring the world over, warming up Interpol fans everywhere.
