GRiZ tour dates
GRiZ (born Grant Kwiecinski) is a Michigan-based DJ whose unique sound is often described as "future funk." After building a loyal fan base in the area with his electric live performance, GRiZ was introduced to the alto sax that would come to define his signature sound as a professional DJ and producer. Best known for his self-described "future funk" sound, Griz combines funk, electro-soul and live music from the saxophone to create a sound all his own.
While growing up in Michigan, GRiZ attended Birmingham Groves High School and then Michigan State University for a number of years but ultimately dropped out so he could pursue a musical career full time. By building his loyal fanbase in the area, GRiZ eventually got a chance to build his base further by opening up for bigger artists, including as Bassnectar, Pretty Lights, Gramatik and Big Gigantic on their respective tours, eventually leading to his own headlining tour. During that time, he released a series of independent albums that won both critical acclaim and an increased, rabidly loyal fanbase. GRiZ now hosts the 12 Days of Grizmas, where fans who participate are rewarded with a wide variety of prizes in exchange for helping to raise money for charities. What's worthy to note is that all of GRiZ's albums are available for free download on his website, showing that he's not at all afraid of sharing the wealth when it comes to his talent.
GRiZ's noteworthy awards
The Untz put GRiZ at the top of their list of breakout artists of 2013 - and this was the same year he received a number of accolades from a wide variety of magazines, including Detroit Music Magazine and SPIN. Another interesting - and perhaps unexpected - award came for GRiZ in 2015, when he won an award from High Times Magazine. He won the People's Choice Flower category for the strain GRiZ Kush created in collaboration with Native Roots Apothecary, making him the first DJ to ever come up with his own strain of marijuana. That same year, he - along with The Liberators and All Good Records - were awarded the Spirit of Detroit for the 12 Days of GRiZMAS campaign that raised over $30,000 for Little Kids Rock. The Liberators, as it turns out, is the name of GRiZ's official street team, and GRiZ credits them with contributing a great deal to his career - without them, he said, none of what he had achieved would be possible. The GRiZ tour, in fact, was a success thanks to The Liberators.
