The proud history of FC Salzburg

FC Salzburg was previously known as SV Austria Salzburg and was founded in 1933. In 2005, it was bought by local company Red Bull and re-founded as a new (but equally brilliant!) team. Reaching the top national division in 1953, they enjoyed successful periods in the 1970s and especially the 1990s, winning their first Austrian Bundesliga title in 1994 and making the final of the Europa League in the same year. Losing out to Inter Milan didn't put them off becoming domestic champions again in 1995 and 1997, then going on to dominate the Bundesliga for much of the 21st century.
