The band, whose members met in university, has been performing together since 1987, putting on shows internationally and releasing 10 full-length studio albums.
Schedule
Pidzama Porno will be taking to the road to play gigs across Poland, making stops in Zabrze and Katowice before playing Medykalia 2015 and Lubelske Dni Kultury Studenckiej 2015 in Lublin. The group will continue on to play a show in Krynica-Zdroj, then make appearances at the Krakowskie Juwenalia - Cycynalia 2015 in Krakow, KultURalia in Rzeszow, XIII Festival Muzyki Niemechanicznej Around the Rock in Czerwionka, and the Cieszanow Rock Festival 2015 in Cieszanow. The band will finish up their Polish tour at the Czad Festiway 2015 in Straszecin, Poland. Next year, Pidzama Porno will make an appearance at Scala in London.
Trivia
The band didn't make it big through traditional means. In fact, they were influenced by the Polish underground who used underground tactics to get noticed. The band created demo albums in 1987, and those records got the attention of the public by the dissemination of amateur copies of the records. This means that while they did not benefit monetarily directly from the sales, they ultimately gained more fame than they ever imagined.
Band
Pidzama Porno is made up of 5 members -- Krzysztof Grabowski on vocals, Andrzej Kozakiewicz on vocals and guitar, Slawek Mizerkiewicz on guitar, Julian Piotrowiak on bass guitar, and Rafal Piotrowiak on percussion. Formed in 1987, the band released two albums, Ulice jak stymaty and Futurista. These gained them notoriety through the underground scene, in which people illegally copied and shared music. Despite their fan following, the band broke up in 1990. However, their retirement didn't last long, and they got back together in 1994, re-releasing Futurista with a few new songs added. The band continued to release several albums and tour Poland. They signed to S.P. Records in 1996, and the label helped them reach an even wider audience -- touring not only Eastern Europe, but also countries in Western Europe and the U.K.
Breakthrough
The band broke through to the top of the underground scene with the release of its first two albums. However, it wasn't until the band reformed in 1994 released the album Zamiast burzy that they skyrocketed to fame in Poland. This is the album that got them regular airplay in the country, as well as gigs touring Poland the rest of Eastern Europe.
Hit Albums
Futurista was the first album that got the band noticed. This album made the band superstars of the Polish underground scene. Zamiast burzy was their first foray into radio popularity, and Marchef w butonierce, released in 2001, is also considered to be one of the band's best.
