Kaleo - Iceland's coolest new act on a roll
Featuring on just about every list of rising stars, appearing on everything from adverts for Orange is the New Black to the soundtrack for FIFA 16, performing in a volcano... This is one of the most surprising and ambitious acts to come out of anywhere in recent years, and the Icelandic band's hit single 'Way Down We Go' smashed into charts on both sides of the Atlantic in 2015. Their bluesy rock is bound for bigger things still, with Esquire dubbing them the next Bon Iver and Hozier in the same sentence. Kaleo - Explosive bluesy rock goes global
You can hear the fact that this four-piece is centred around a friendship that started in elementary school in their joyous, edgy rock that perfectly rounds the sum of all its parts. Growing up just outside of Reykjavik, the band started playing together at the age of 17, before recruiting guitarist Rubin Pollock in 2012. They saw success in their home country early, with early single 'Vor í Vaglaskógi' gaining plenty of airplay before featuring on the first episode of Icelandic murder mystery show Trapped.
After releasing the punchy single 'All the Pretty Girls', which proved something of a US breakthrough, the band relocated to Austin, Texas in 2015. With all members having long been fans of American music, the move, in hindsight, was inevitable, and they've since played in 45 US states. Their first single fresh off the boat, so to speak, was 'Way Down We Go', which was released along with a breathtaking video of the band performing in a volcano. It erupted - the song, that is - smashing into the US charts and featuring on the soundtrack of FIFA 2016, as well as in countless trailers and adverts.
