Joyce Manor's music has been described as emo punk, emo rock and pop punk. This hard-working American rock band has toured extensively through Australia, the UK and their native US. Fans that score Joyce Manor tickets can look forward to a lively, energetic stage show that highlights the moody, sometimes edgy and always captivating vulnerability that has become the group's ultimate trademark.
Joyce Manor's background
Joyce Manor consists of Barry Johnson on lead vocals and guitar, Chase Knobbe on guitar, Jeff Enzor on drums and Matt Ebert on bass and backup vocals. The band was first conceived of in 2008 as a duo, featuring Knobbe and Johnson; they say the inspiration came while they were drunk at Disneyland, and that the band's name was drawn from that of an apartment building near Johnson's house.
The group's deep well of talent and years of experience produce a versatile sound that is at times bouncy enough to be ska and catchy enough to be pop, yet always underlaid by a deliberate, stalking rhythm that comes through in their vocal melodies.
Joyce Manor's discography
Joyce Manor certainly aren't shy in the studio - in fact, they're unusually prolific, starting with a series of three EPs in 2009. Their full-length debut, Joyce Manor (2011), was released to high praise from both critics and fans. It made many "best of" lists that year, including Punknews' "2011 Album of the Year."
As soon as they were done criss-crossing the United States on tour, Joyce Manor headed back to the studio to record a follow-up, Of All Things I Will Soon Grow Tired (2012), which featured a cover of The Buggles' classic, "Video Killed the Radio Star."
This was quickly followed by Never Hungover Again (2014) and Cody (2016), both of which were issued through Epitaph Records. The quartet have also released three split EPs with bands that they describe as some of their biggest influences: Summer Vacation, Big Kids and Toys That Kill.
Joyce Manor trivia
The members of Joyce Manor have drawn attention for taking a strong stance against stage diving, even interrupting sets to put a halt to it out of concern for their smaller, younger fans that might be injured by this practice.
