Tickets & Tour Information For Jorja Smith
Jorja Smith: rising R&B star to tour UK in 2018
A talented vocalist who can turn to R&B, soul and jazz music with equal skill, Jorja Smith is a MOBO Award nominated artist. Smith gained significant attention when still a teenager after she was named by the BBC Music Sound of 2017 panel as one of the artists to watch out for in the future. Although she failed to make the top position on that list – an honour that went to Ray BLK – Smith ended up in a creditable fourth position.
Later that year, the incredibly popular Canadian rapper, singer and producer, Drake, appointed Smith as his chosen support act for a string of UK tour dates, thereby bringing the British vocalist to a wider audience in her home country. Smith will now play a full UK tour in the autumn of 2018, completing a string of shows in up and down the country this October. Don't miss out! Buy Jorja Smith tickets now at StubHub.
Jorja Smith's early life
Jorja Smith was born and raised in Walsall in the West Midlands. Her father was born in Gloucester and was a performing musician in his own right, playing as part of a neo-soul band. Smith was therefore exposed to a range of music from an early age, including the reggae and ska sound of the Jamaican music label, Trojan Records. She also listened to artists such as Curtis Mayfield and Damien Marley a lot as a youngster.
A musical enthusiast from an early age, Smith cites the likes of Amy Winehouse and Lauren Hill as influencing her sometimes jazzy vocal style. In terms of lyrical inspiration, the singer has mentioned bands such as the Streets and songwriters like FKA Twigs as being important to her. Her first release, "Blue Lights", took a political stance and was the song that won her the aforementioned MOBO nomination. She joined a music collective, named OGHORSE, before starting to release her own music on the Internet.
Jorja Smith's career milestones
Smith's "Blue Lights" was released on the SoundCloud music sharing platform when she was 18 years of age, winning her a good deal of acclaim. "A Prince" followed later that year and then she put out another track entitled "Where Did I Go?". This one brought her to the attention of Drake, who featured the song in an article for Entertainment Weekly. At the end of that year, Smith released a four-track EP that covered a range of different styles and moods, showcasing the singer's versatility. It was simply entitled Project 11.
In 2017, Smith released "Beautiful Little Fools" and another single by the name of "Teenage Fantasy". As well as being highlighted as an up-and-coming musical star by the BBC, she was picked out as one of 10 pop and R&B artists to watch out for by FACT Magazine. Smith featured as a vocalist on Drake's More Life album that year. She also sang on the single "Get it Together", a track that reached number 24 in the UK charts.
