Developing technology for a brand-new musical experience
The buzz surrounding the north London singer, composer, arranger, producer, and multi-instrumentalist began around 2011 when the self-confessed autodidact started uploading homemade videos to the internet. The split-screen arrangements, showing Collier playing various instruments in the composition, featured re-worked covers of classic songs, a particular favorite being 'Don't You Worry 'Bout a Thing' by Stevie Wonder. As his audience grew, Collier's wild fusion of folk, jazz, electronic, gospel, soul, classical, and a cappella captured the attention of the legendary record producer, musician, and composer Quincy Jones, who signed him to his management company in 2014. From here, Collier began working with the MIT Media Lab on the development of a live audio-visual, one-man performance vehicle to create an original multimedia experience to showcase to audiences around the world. Debuting at Ronnie Scott's Jazz Club in London, the show features a wealth of technological wonders - for the eyes and ears - that bring Collier's style and talents to the live stage. 'In My Room', awards, and beyond
In 2015, Collier started work on 'In My Room', his highly anticipated debut album recorded, arranged, and produced by himself in the music room of his London family home. He also wrote eight of the eleven songs featured on the album, as well as playing every instrument. Following its release, Collier set out on a world tour of his one-man show, which sent him through the prestigious Montreux Jazz Festival. In 2017, Collier took home two Grammy awards for Best Arrangement, Instrumental or A Cappella for 'You and I' and Best Arrangement, Instrumental and Vocals for 'Flintstones', the theme tune of the original TV series. Collier has also worked with famous film score composer Hans Zimmer on the score to the 2017 film 'The Boss Baby'. The pair also performed together along with Pharrell Williams at Coachella Festival.
