Godspeed You! Black Emperor Biography - Cult Canucks

This Montreal-based act first formed in 1994 as the brainchild of music enthusiasts Efrim Menuck, Mike Moya and Mauro Pezzente. After earning their stripes with support slots with local bands, they put out their debut album the same year - limiting its release to 33 cassette copies. Their line-up expanded quickly with a flexible approach meaning that local musicians could perform within the group for a few performances and then leave. Eventually the act stabilised and became the cult group that we know today.

Despite many of their recordings having received widespread critical acclaim it's in the band's live performances that their magic resides. Their raw rock offering coupled with orchestral dynamics mean that lucky audiences get to experience a mesmerisingly immersive sound. Their 2012 release, ALLELUJAH! DON'T BEND!
