Electric Six - Cult Hit Hilarious Rock
Founded by madcap frontman Dick Valentine in 1996, this zany Motor City outfit originally went under the moniker The Wildbunch. Inspired by a horde of mismatched bands from Smashing Pumpkins to Talking Heads to Kiss, the group set about twisting and exaggerating rock and roll clichés for fun, producing a catalogue of highly danceable anthems including 'Danger! High Voltage'.
Bursting onto the music scene in 2003 with their debut album Fire, Electric Six made an instant impact, with Rolling Stone magazine hailing them for bringing out 'the summer's most brilliantly demented party record'. Inflecting their signature rock sound with elements of garage, disco, punk, new wave and metal, the madcap band released three cult hit singles: 'Danger! High Voltage, 'Gay Bar' and 'Dance Commander'. All three ridiculously infectious tracks were accompanied by similarly ludicrous music videos, which pushed the album in to the UK Top 10 as well as the upper echelons on the US Billboard Top 100. With 11 albums under their belt, including 2015's Bitch, Don't Let Me Die and Mimicry and Memories, the group are as prolific as ever, and remain a captivating presence live. In 2016, the band embark on a UK and European tour, honouring breakthrough album Fire as well as performing new material.
