When established electropop musicians Karl Hyde and Rick Smith took the risky step of recruiting 17 year old DJ Darren Emerson into their outfit, they couldn't have possibly realised what a masterstroke it would prove. Putting techno at the forefront of their sound, the group were one of the first stretched the possibilities of their genre, fusing elements of dub, trance, ambient house and Krautrock to hypnotic effect.

Underworld's unique visual identity and exhilarating live performances made them a cult prospect among dance music lovers, prompting other acts to push the boundaries and embrace a similar penchant for experimentation. Their ability to permeate artistic expression into anthemic club bangers in their seminal 1994 album dubnobasswithmyheadman changed the way the electro genre was perceived, and the album is now regarded as one of the most influential records of our time.
