Tribes Biography - Gigging Their Way to the Top
Formed in 2010, this hotly tipped group was fashioned from two radically different sounding bands. Drawing on both the grunge sounds of the early '90s and the Britpop movement later in the decade, this stylish quartet released their debut EP, We Were Children in April 2011. Named "Hottest Record in the World" by hit-predicting Radio 1 DJ Zane Lowe, the title song paved the way for the huge amounts of attention the group were about to receive. After touring alongside Kooks and Kaiser Chiefs, the foursome released debut album Baby in early 2012, hitting the UK Top 20 in the process.
Album track 'Whenever' most prominently displays their Nirvana-inspired sounds, with frontman Johnny Lloyd's husky voice being almost unmistakable for Kurt Cobain's own gruff vocals. It took just a lone gig and demo in order to convince Pixies frontman and all around musical genius Frank Black to invite them to support him on tour. Having made appearances at T in the Park as well as Bestival, their audience only continues to grow with each Tribes tour that crashes across the UK. Make sure you've got a chance to see this group whilst they're still able to play intimate gigs and browse StubHub UK for Tribes tickets online.
