The Rifles: 60s-inspired London indie-rockers
Garage rock heroes The Rifles are one of the biggest exports of the mid-to-late 2000s British indie boom. Brimming with swagger and evoking the spirit of iconic mod revival acts like The Jam, the Chingford band have stacked up scores of indie disco classics including "The Great Escape" and "She's Got Standards".
To celebrate the 10th anniversary of their bestselling album No Love Lost, the band remastered the LP at the Abbey Road Studios for a second release before embarking on an accompanying UK and releasing fifth album Big Love in 2016. The Rifles go unplugged at Abbey Road
Two of the founding members of The Rifles, Joel Stoker and Lucas Crowther, decided to form the band in 2003 after meeting each other at Redbridge College in Chingford. Discovering a mutual passion for 60s psychedelia, punk bands like The Clash and 90s Britpop, the East London duo decided to enlist the help of drummer Grant Marsh and Bassist Rob Pyne to create a guitar-driven rock ensemble of their own. Together, the quartet paid their dues on the London pub and club scene and eventually released their debut album No Love Lost in 2006.
Their single "Local Boy" became a hit on the airwaves, buoying a successful European tour that featured an appearance from The Jam singer Paul Weller – one of the band's biggest supporters – who came on to play "She's the Only One" with the band. Since then, the group have released four successful studio albums including highest charting 2014 LP None the Wiser.
The Rifles’ newest album "The Rifles Unplugged Album: Recorded at Abbey Road Studios" was recorded in just the one take in early January 2017 and features a selection of their classic songs from albums None The Wiser, Great Escape, Freedom Run, No Love Lost and latest album Big Life as well as an exclusive new track; bringing it to 16 songs in total.
