A Brief History of SC Freiburg
As with most German football clubs, SC Freiburg dates its origins to 1904 and two existing clubs: Freiburger Fussballverein 04 and FC Schwalbe Freiburg. After a few name changes, both clubs later united to form SportClub Freiburg in 1911. From that point through the post WWII era, SC Freiburg was content to play within its own domestic leagues with a mixture of success until the 1978-79 season saw them promoted to the second division of the Bundesliga. In fifteen years, the team captured four titles and earned its promotion to top-flight football after the 1992-93 season. In only its second season, the club finished second to champions Feyenoord (01/02 Rd3). If you enjoy supporting the underdog, spend a matchday with this team.
