A slow progression up the professional football ranks

SC Paderborn 07 has only been in existence as an official club name since 1997. They were previously known as TuS Paderborn/Neuhaus to preserve the identities of the two clubs that had merged to form it, TuS Schloss Neuhaus and FC Paderborn. They were saved by the formation of a new third-tier professional league, the Regionalliga West/Südwest. Things got better from there too, and they made the second division for the second time in 2005, spending roughly ten years there before finally making it all the way to the top division of the Bundesliga in 2015. From there, they plummeted, however, and a mere two years later, they were floundering in the third division once again.
