Russell Kane Biography - Essex Lad in the Limelight

Hailing from Leigh-on-Sea, Essex lad Russell Kane turned to stand-up comedy after the death of his father in 2004. Working as a copywriter at an ad agency, the then 24-year-old Kane accepted a dare took to stage armed with humour. That year he won the New Act of the Year Award at the Edinburgh Fringe, and by 2006 he quit his job to pursue an entertainment career with more dedication.

Just a few years down the line Russell Kane is, if not the biggest, then at least one of today's most interesting young comedians. The complex father/son relationship has deeply influenced Russell Kane's stand-up act; Kane's 'macho' father is at the centre of some of his hilarious jokes. During his 2011 'Manscaping' tour, Russell Kane split with his then wife, later returning to his career with an even more astute view on masculinity and singledom.
