Celta Vigo becomes celebrated as EuroCelta

Celta’s name goes all the way back to the Galician region’s ancient roots, a reference to the Celtic tribes that once settled the area. The club was founded in 1923 and to this day plays its home games at its original (albeit upgraded) stadium, Estadio Municipal de Balaidos, which the archpriest of Fragaso opened and blessed in 1928. The very first game there was against Real Union, which the hosts gratefully won in emphatic fashion. This was indeed a true portent for the club, as it wasn’t long before it began a roughly 80-year run in the top Spanish league, continuing into the modern era.
