Perfume Genius Tickets

Born in 1981, Perfume Genius is the stage persona of Mike Hadreas, a Seattle-based indie pop performer who also writes art rock tracks. Active as a professional musician since 2008, Perfume Genius sometimes operates as a chamber pop performer, utilising strings and horn sections as well as synth pads to build up the harmonic structure of his songs. A singer and keyboard player, Hadreas started to learn about music and art from an early age. The singer has gone on record to state that he had a difficult time as a teenager, largely due to some of his fellow high schoolmates' hostility towards his sexuality. As a result, the young songwriter dropped out of school and later relocated to Williamsburg in New York to seek out a career in music.

Perfume Genius' career milestones

Although Hadreas spent some time working in clubs in New York’s East Village for a time, he was mostly operating as a doorman. Eventually, he decided to move back to his home state of Washington to pursue a more personal approach to song writing. From 2005 onwards, Hadreas adopted his Perfume Genius stage name and began penning songs about his experiences of life. By 2008, Perfume Genius was posting much of his new music on MySpace, where it gained a considerable amount of attention, helping to make his name.

Due to his growing number of online fans, Perfume Genius ended up attracting record label attention. He signed a deal with Matador Records, an independent label specialising in alternative rock and electronic acts, in 2010. A European deal mirroring his North American contract with Matador was also signed with Turnstile Records. By June of that year, Perfume Genius’ debut official release was available to buy. Featuring many self-produced tracks, Learning was largely recorded in Hadreas’ home, and as such, it was referred to by many reviewers as a bedroom album. Nevertheless, the work was generally well received by critics. Around this time, Perfume Genius started to play live. His first gig was at the Vera Project in his home city. He performed a notable concert when he supported the Philadelphia-based shoegazer band, A Sunny Day in Glasgow.

In 2012, Perfume Genius returned with Put Your Back N 2 It, another critically acclaimed work. This was followed up in September of 2014, when Too Bright came out. Produced by Adrian Utley, famous for his work with the British band Portishead, it was followed by a tour. Many of the dates on the tour were sold out and the artist started to be invited to perform on TV shows, too, such as The Late Show With David Letterman. No Shape, an album that received favourable reviews on both sides of the Atlantic, came out in 2017.
