Paul Heaton Biography - Beautiful South Duo Reunited for 2 Successful Albums
Following the disbandment of his first band in the late '80s, this Wirral-born singer, along with Dave Hemingway, Sean Welch and Dave Rotheray formed The Beautiful South. Building on the success they had found as The Housemartins, they achieved fame with first two singles 'Song for Whoever' and 'You Keep it All In'. In 1990, debut album Welcome to the Beautiful South proved a huge hit and single 'A Little Time' made it to number one. Jacqui Abbott joined the line-up in 1994 and contributed vocals to hit albums like Blue is the Colour and Quench before leaving the group in 2000 to focus on her family.
The band split in 2007, citing 'musical similarities' and a desire to pursue their own solo interests after 19 wonderful years in the industry. During this time the frontman had also started working on his own material, releasing a relatively unknown record Fat Chance in 2001 before finding more success with his sophomore effort The Cross Eyed Rambler in 2008. Third album Acid Country then saw the singer embark on a UK 'pub tour', cycling and performing in small venues across the country.
Despite not having spoken in a decade, he reconnected with Jacqui Abbott via Facebook, and the duo set out to record new material, culminating in the release of What Have We Become? in 2014. The pair performed at festivals across the UK and it wasn't long before they put out their second effort Wisdom, Laughter and Lines - another top ten hit - in 2015.
