It says something these days when a band immediately catches a big wave of success right from the get-go. London quartet Palace are one of those lucky bands, drawing the attention of the BBC's Zane Lowe and singer/songwriter Jamie T, who helped propel the group to success. Now, they're breaking out on their own.Schedule
Although Palace has only been in existence for a short time, the foursome has already landed some very prestigious gigs at some of London's top venues, including Scala and Rough Trade West. Soon, the band will head out on tour again, hitting UK venues in Reading, Oxford, and Bristol and beyond as well as famed European festivals like Bestival in Arreton, Kendal Calling in Penrith, and Musilac in Aix Les Bains, France. Palace tickets are selling out quickly for their upcoming shows.
Trivia
Palace initially had a tough time selecting a band name. As lead singer Leo Wyndham told Vice in 2014, his little brother Wilby, who the group's original bassist, suggested the name 'Palace' as a joke. As it turned out, the rest of the group actually took a liking to it, so it stuck. "It somehow worked," Wyndham said, adding that the other names they were considering were "horrific.Band
Made up of a London foursome who all met in secondary school, Palace's members have all known each other for quite some time. After deciding it was about time they start a band in mid-2013, the musicians each picked up their respective instruments -- Leo Wyndham on guitar and vocals, Will Dory on bass, Rupert Turner on guitar and Matt Hodges on drums -- and started jamming in a tiny studio in Camden. Though the practice space was small, their sound could not be contained. Their sprawling, atmospheric sound has drawn comparisons to Jeff Buckley, Wu Lyf, and most frequently, Morrissey.Breakthrough
After Palace debuted their first single, the moody, somber "Veins" on Soundcloud, it took only two weeks for the song to earn 50,000 plays. It was an instant hit, drawing not only the attention of singer and songwriter Jamie T, who hand-picked them to open for him on tour, but also BBC Radio 1 mastermind Zane Lowe, who after catching wind of Palace, selected the band for radio rotation. Suddenly, people began seeking out their work independently.Hit Albums
After releasing "Veins" digitally on Soundcloud, along with three other tracks they had been working on, Palace dropped their debut EP, called "Lost in the Night" with a record release show at the St Pancras Old Church in London. The album officially came out a few days later on October 20, 2014 via Beatnik Creative, and features five songs, including an acoustic reworking of the titular "Lost in the Night" track.Show Experience
Palace has learned to be prepared for anything at their shows. The band's music is influenced more by blues than pop. As such, their sets tend to be a bit somber and chilled out than rowdier rock and pop counterparts. Palace tickets guarantee a relaxing, soothing performance in a standing environment."Back to TopEpic events and incredible deals straight to your inbox.
