Snooker Legends Tour: exhibition matches across the UK
First held in 2010, the Snooker Legends tour is an annual set of non-ranking events for retired and current snooker players aged 40 and above to play exhibition matches and tournaments. In the 2017/18 season, this consisted of a series of four main events – The UK Seniors Championship, The Seniors Irish Masters, The Seniors Masters and The World Seniors Championship – as well as a number of smaller events across the UK.
Crowd favourite Jimmy White, 1979 UK Championship winner John Virgo, and former World Championship winners Cliff Thorburn, John Parrott, Alex Higgins all returned to the Crucible Theatre in Sheffield for the inaugural event in 2010, which is best remembered as the last time former World Champion Alex Higgins played snooker before he died in July that year. The highlight of the debut tour was a maximum 147 break by Jimmy White (a feat he repeated on the 2011 tour), who also won the World Seniors Championship; beating Steve Davis 4-1 in the final to claim his 30th career title.
In more recent years, the likes of Tony Drago, Joe Johnson, Tony Knowles and even Ronnie O'Sullivan (now in his 40s) have all taken part. Buy Snooker Legends tickets now at StubHub and see the biggest stars of yesteryear (and today) live.
World Snooker Seniors Tour: legends of the game thrill nostalgic crowds
In 2012, the Seniors tour was given a boost when former world champions Steve Davis and Stephen Hendry participated. "The Legends Cup" was staged in Bedworth where a team from England and Northern Ireland beat a team from The Rest of the World 18–16. In the same year, Snooker Legends staged a series of seven events between crowd favourites Ronnie O'Sullivan and Jimmy White. In the first match in Croydon O'Sullivan made a maximum 147 break, the 3rd perfect break since the tour began.
Another former world champion, Mark Williams, joined the tour in 2013, as England and Northern Ireland (with Dennis Taylor as captain) beat Cliff Thorburn's Rest of the World side 18-14 to win The Legends Cup. In the same year, the format was changed to include doubles matches as well as the single matches, while at some exhibitions members of the audience had a chance to play a doubles match with the professional players.
In 2017, Leeds potter Peter Lines beat three former world champions (Stephen Hendry, Dennis Taylor and John Parrott) to win the World Seniors Championship. Don't miss your chance to see some of the sport's legends in action. Buy World Snooker Seniors Tour tickets at StubHub now.
