Kronos Quartet Biography - Grammy-Winning String Quartet

This multi-award winning string quartet originated from founder David Harrington's love of George Crumb's Black Angels. By the late '70s, the violinist had recruited three more talented additions to his ensemble, completing the group's line-up with John Sherba, Hank Dutt and Joan Jeanrenaud. The quartet quickly generated a reputation for their more contemporary music choices and their relaxed atmosphere at performances. They soon developed long-standing partnerships with some of the greatest contemporary composers of our time, including Terry Riley, Steve Reich and Philip Glass.

The four-piece have been involved in a variety of albums from rock and pop acts such as Nine Inch Nails and Nelly Furtado. Their live shows have also closely followed suit, with on-stage collaborations with David Bowie and Tom Waits marking just some of the highlights of the group's career.
