Climb to Joyous Heights With Joe McElderry
Joe McElderry became famous on TV, and has not stopped working hard to give his fans a chance to see him in person. The heartthrob and balladeer tours frequently, singing his hits and newest songs in theatres and concert halls around the U.K. His movie-star good looks and small-town charm have made him a favourite on the screen and his talent as a singer has ensured that his records are even more beloved than his smile.
Schedule
McElderry is playing the Golden Craig Theatre in Stevenage, City Varieties Music Hall in Leeds, Empire Theatre in Consett, Mill Volvo Tyne Theatre in Newcastle upon Tyne, and The Customs House in his birthplace of South Shields. He will continue the tour with stops at Cheltenham Town Hall, Lyceum Theatre in Crewe, Winding Wheel in Chesterfield, Chequer Mead Theatre in East Grinstead, Eastbourne's Royal Hippodrome Theatre, Hazlitt Theatre in Maidstone and Corby's The Core.
Trivia
McElderry showed maturity, patience and self-awareness rare for a teenager when he dropped out of the early stages of "The X Factor" two years before he won the show, realising that he was not ready to compete with the older performers around him. While working on his acting skills in college, McElderry played the role of Danny Zuko in "Grease" -‒ a part most famously played by John Travolta in the movie version of the iconic stage musical.
Singer
McElderry's celebrated career has centred around his performances on TV talent shows. He doesn't just show up, but wins, with victories in season six of "The X Factor," season two of "Popstar to Operastar" and the initial season of "The Jump." McElderry has worked to master the art of singing and in part owes his charismatic stage presence to his studies at Newcastle College Performance Academy. McElderry is also an active fundraiser for charity; for example, he raised money for the Teenage Cancer Trust by cycling from Glasgow to Tyneside.
Breakthrough
With the help of his mentor, Cheryl Cole, McElderry broke through in one of the most dramatic ways possible for a modern pop star in the U.K. He won "The X Factor" in 2009, his place as champion sealed with a rendition of Miley Cyrus' "The Climb." This track also became McElderry's first single after signing a deal with Syco Music ‒- the division of Sony Music Entertainment managed by Simon Cowell ‒- and reached No. 1 on the U.K., Irish and Scottish charts.
Hit Albums
McElderry's success on "The X Factor," including the single "The Climb," helped his first album, Wide Awake, to debut at No. 3 in the U.K. and reach the top 10 on the European Top 100 Albums chart. McElderry moved to Decca Records for his second album, Classic, which entered the charts at No. 2 and featured more famous ballads and fewer pop hits than his debut album. His Classic Christmas album reached No. 15, and his fourth album, Here's What I Believe, debuted at No. 8.
Show Experience
McElderry often tours with a four-piece band that backs up his main instrument: his soaring voice. Anyone fortunate enough to have Joe McElderry tickets will be taken through a wide range of emotions as he switches from ballads that leave audiences quietly waiting for his voice to crescendo before they burst into cheers to dance hits that instantly turn the concert into a party atmosphere. McElderry is that rare singer who does not need any tricks in the studio to boost his vocals and seeing him live will show you just how powerful his natural talent is.
