James Blunt: fifth album The Afterlove gets plenty of love from critics
Born in Hamshire in 1974, James Blunt served as a captain in the British Army (supporting NATO efforts in Kosovo in the late-’90s) before fully devoting himself to music. His 2004 studio album Back to Bedlam brought him acclaim not just in the UK, but around the world, helping make him one of the most popular artists on the pop scene.
Back to Bedlam would go on to become the best-selling album in the UK for the entire 2000s; selling over 11 million copies. His 2007 follow-up, All the Lost Souls, would also top the charts in the UK, achieving gold status within just four days of going on sale. He has received several awards, including two Brit Awards – winning Best British Male in 2006 – two MTV Video Music Awards and two Ivor Novello Awards, as well as five Grammy Award nominations.
Though his albums have helped make him one of the most celebrated musicians of his genre, it's his live performances that have cemented his reputation as a must-see star all over the world.
As a philanthropist, Blunt has been a vocal supporter of medical charities, as well a passionate promoter of climate change awareness. An ambassador for the Help for Heroes campaign, he starred in the documentary, James Blunt: Return to Kosovo, revisiting the war-torn region in which he once served.
