Hull City tickets
Hull City FC – tigers on the pitch
Nicknamed "The Tigers", Hull City Football Club was founded over a century ago, way back in 1904. They didn’t have a ground of their own for many years and played only friendly matches on various sports fields until they settled at Anlaby Road, which was, in fact, a cricket ground. Hull City FC managed to finish in fifth place during their first league season. They had to fight for their existence in the city because the dominant game was rugby. Despite this, they grew into a successful club and ended all their early seasons in the top half of the league. Buy and sell Hull City FC tickets on StubHub to see this historic club in action.
Purveyors of the beautiful game
One of Hull City FC’s greatest stars was David Mercer, nicknamed "Magical" Mercer, who joined the club in 1914 and completed an unbroken run of 218 games, half of these taking place throughout the First World War. Games were played as usual during the first season of that war, but as the conflict dragged on and more and more men went off to fight, the number of games and teams was reduced. To make up their teams, clubs like Hull City FC had to call in guest players. This meant that David Mercer’s run of games was unusual for the time. The club’s fortunes fluctuated during the 1920s, 30 and 40s. Hull City FC was in the doldrums until, shortly after the Second World War ended, a new board of directors took charge under the chairmanship of Harold Needler. The club’s fortunes changed. They moved to their new ground, Boothferry Park, found new manager Major Frank Buckley, and signed a player who was to become another Hull City FC legend: Horatio Stratton Carter. The 1949 to 1950 season was the greatest season enjoyed by the club, with new records set and a magnificent cup run that ended at the quarter-finals when beaten by 0–1 by Manchester United. A record-breaking club
Hull City have experienced the ups and downs that beset most football clubs. However, under the management of the legendary Peter Taylor, who moved to the club from Brighton & Hove Albion FC, they eventually rose to the Champion’s League in the 2005 to 2006 season. They gained another new home, the KC Stadium, and in the 2008 to 2009 season became the club to rise from the Third Division to the Premier League in a record five seasons.
