From Judy Garland to Beauty and the Beast

Situated on Tottenham Court Road in London's West End, the Dominion Theatre first opened its doors in 1929. It began life as a cinema, screening the British premiere of Charlie Chaplin movie "City Lights" and lengthy runs of "Cleopatra" and "The Sound of Music". However, in the 1950s it also began to establish itself as a live entertainment venue, welcoming big names such as Judy Garland and Bill Haley and staging a production of "South Pacific" which ran for more than four years. David Bowie, U2, Bon Jovi, Duran Duran, Sinead O'Connor and Thin Lizzy were just a few of the successful pop and rock outfits that helped the theatre to become a major concert destination in the 1980s. And in the 1990s it became a popular musical theatre venue thanks to shows such as "Grease", "Scrooge: The Musical" and "Beauty and the Beast", while it also staged the Royal Variety Performance four years in a row. The home of We Will Rock You

In the '00s, the 2,163-capacity Dominion Theatre became the home of "We Will Rock You", the hugely successful Queen jukebox musical which ran for 12 years. It also housed auditions for TV talent show Britain's Got Talent, welcomed a reimagined version of "Jeff Wayne's Musical Version of War of the World" and staged musical theatre adaptations of films such as "The Bodyguard", "Elf", "An American in Paris" and "White Christmas." The theatre has also hosted charity specials such as "West End Eurovision" and "West End Heroes", is used by the London branch of the Hillsong Church for their Sunday services each week and in 2018 staged another major jukebox musical, the Meat Loaf - based "Bat Out of Hell". The building has undergone numerous restorations and refurbishments over the years, with notable additions including a statue of and a suite named after charismatic Queen frontman Freddie Mercury and the West End's highest-resolution exterior screen.
