Bob Dylan Biography

Born Robert Zimmerman in Minnesota, 1941, Dylan gained his first taste of the spotlight playing in battle of the bands contests at school. Switching his tastes from rock 'n' roll to folk after enrolling at university, he dropped out after his first year and moved to New York in the hope of meeting his musical idol, Woody Guthrie.

Quickly ingratiating himself with the local folk scene, he initially struggled to make an impact with his early releases after scoring a deal with Columbia. However, inspired by the great political change sweeping America in the 60's, he created his follow-up LP, The Freewheelin' Bob Dylan, which catapulted him to success with tracks such as "Blowin' in the Wind" and "A Hard Rain's A-Gonna Fall" becoming anthemic soundtracks of the era.

With no less than 35 albums and 100 million record sales under his belt, along with innumerable awards and accolades, his immeasurable impact on generations of musicians cannot be understated.
