Superior quality cinema for all ages
The BFI IMAX cinema was inaugurated in 1999 and was built following a design by English architect Bryan Avery. The structure won several awards in the following couple of years including a "Civil Trust" award and a "Design Council Millenium Product" award, thanks to special features in the design such as noise propagation prevention and the addition of anti-vibration bearings. This cinema can seat up to 500 guests, and in its initial years, it used a 70 mm projector to play films, until 2012, when a special IMAX projector was added to its equipment for better 3D projections. Over the years, the venue has played both new films and classics, along with special educational IMAX films that have the power to transport you into another world. Some of the world’s greatest films have been played at the BFI IMAX, like The Matrix series, as well as films by some of the greatest directors, such as Francis Ford Coppola, and writers such as Stephen King. One of the highlights of BFI IMAX came with the film "The Dark Knight Rises", when around 66,000 tickets were pre-booked before the film was even released. See for yourself what makes this cinema a special venue by buying your BFI IMAX tickets and securing the best seats in the house.
