So how did this Canadian jazz quartet end up on the writing credits for some of the biggest albums in modern music? The original trio of pianist Matthew Tavares, bassist Chester Hansen and drummer Alexander Sowinski met at college, bonding over a shared love of hip-hop. After getting together for jamming sessions, they recorded a cover of 'Lemonade' by Gucci Mane, which would go on to become an internet sensation thanks to a tweet by longtime supporter Tyler, the Creator.

After releasing two albums, including both original works and covers of artists like Kanye West, playing their first live shows and featuring in a slew of hit videos, they ended up as band-in-residence at Coachella in 2012, playing for Frank Ocean's performances. By 2016 they'd brought out five studio albums, acquired saxophonist Leland Whitty, and had either collaborated or provided samples for some of music's biggest names, including Little Simz, Rihanna and Drake. Their innovative sound blends traditional jazz with the beats and riffs of their hip-hop influences, culminating in a genius mix the likes of which has never been heard before.
